Milton Restaurant Award Winning Trainee Chef demonstrates his talents for First Minister Alex Salmond

The Milton Restaurant was a proud winner earlier this year when trainee chef Craig McKenzie won the title of Young Scottish Seafood Chef of the Year.

As part of his prize, Craig was given the opportunity to cook for First Minister Alex Salmond, the American Ambassador and four other political diplomats at Bute House in Edinburgh yesterday.

Craig was cooking alongside Chef Kevin McGillivray.  Guests were provided a choice of either Butternut Squash Cream Soup or Crispy Hake Galettes with langoustine for starter, followed by Braised Shoulder of Dornoch Lamb.  Craig said ‘we kept the dishes simple but let the flavours do the talking’.

Craig said he enjoyed the experience and particularly liked meeting First Minister Alex Salmond for the second time and the American Ambassador.  He was also looking forward to demonstrating at the ‘Good Food Show’ at Glasgow SECC on Friday.

First Minister Alex Salmond said:

“Craig McKenzie’s talent for showcasing Scotland’s quality, healthy and sustainably sourced seafood was recognised in July when he claimed the prestigious title of Young Seafood Chef of the Year. I am delighted that Craig catered for the diplomatic lunch I hosted in Bute House – guests were given a taste of his award winning skills and a real flavour of Scotland’s superb, delicious, seafood.”
